With the 11th pick of the 2015 NBA Draft . . . the Indiana Pacers select Kelly Oubre from the University of Kansas. Last season the Indiana Pacers just missed the playoffs because of tie breakers that went in favor of the Brooklyn Nets. In a way that works out, despite the morale boost they got from having Paul George come back in less than a year. Falling into the lotto and picking up a stud like Oubre is great for Indy, who need a shot in their arm at the wing position. Not only is Kelly a legit Top 10 pick on several professional mock drafts, but he totally fits a need. The 6'7 wing, while not noted for being a fantastic defender, has a 7'2 wingspan and his offensive abilities compliment George in ways that Lance Stephenson never did. Also, he makes life easier on C.J. Miles, who performs best when he's not relied upon. If you wanted to upgrade the roster you could have also looked at point guard here, but I think Larry Bird doesn't pass up on this awkward released small forward. Oubre would also be challenged by going up against Paul George in practice, in a way, making one metal sharper. Indy could have gone in many ways here, but getting a rotation player outside of the Top 10 isn't always a given. I think Larry Bird gets one here, especially if he takes Oubre. Few guys are as dangerous going to the rim than him.
