NBA Draft Lottery 2016: Utah Jazz to pick 12th

As expected

The NBA Draft lottery just took place and all of the normal things happened. The Utah Jazz will be picked 12th, which is as expected.

The Jazz had the highest possible chance to stay at that number, in fact having a greater chance to fall to #13 than to break into the Top 3. That's fine. It's fine. Really. Fine. It's not like the Jazz need a Top 3 pick right now, they've had a few over the years with mixed results -- Darrell Griffith, Dominique Wilkins (traded before playing for the team), Deron Williams, Derrick Favors (Through trade), Enes Kanter (a picked we got from the Nets), and lastly Dante Exum. (Dante was a #5, stop playing NBA 2K after boosting his stats to be like a #3, Amar!)

In recent history the team has picked up solid rotation players at #12 in Alec Burks and Trey Lyles.

Utah will be fine.

A team that may not actually be fine will be the Philadelphia 76ers who got the #1 spot, even Dikembe Mutombo is happy with that. Fans may not be as they may be upset with the process at this point. Fans want a successful team more than anything else. And it's clear that if Utah is healthy enough, they will be -- regardless of what happens in the 2016 NBA Draft.

On the other hand, the Jazz will be yet another club to have never had a #1 pick before. I don't know if it will ever happen -- and that really makes it tough to build through the draft when you are drafting mostly outside of star player range.

It's a struggle for an unpopular free agent destination. But just because it's hard doesn't mean it won't be worth it in the end. Stick with the Jazz. Slow and steady wins the race. And getting a #1 pick would be skipping steps. Or something.

It's fine. No, YOU got your hopes up!
