The Utah Jazz actually used their #52 draft pick on a player - Weber State's Joel Bolomboy. Bolomboy is a bigman (PF) who is very interesting. The 22 year old is 6'9 and has some length to him: a 7'1.75" wingspan and a 8'7.50" standing reach. Furthermore, and this is the exciting part, he can just jump out of the gym. He recorded a 37.5" vertical jump from rest, and has a 40.5" maximum vertical. And no, he's not just a Jeremy Evans clone, this guy can actually play. He was on Draft Express' list to actually get drafted. Every mock draft he was on had him going in the second round, but anywhere from the early 40s to the end of the draft. I'm excited for this guy -- and it's not just because his parents are from The Congo *and* The Ukraine. He is, as of right now The Draft pick for this team.
In his four years at Weber State he put up some okay numbers. He averaged a double double (11.4 ppg and 10.1 rpg over 130 games, 17.1 ppg and 12.6 rpg as a Senior), and shot the ball pretty well. He has a very nascent three point shot that he will have to develop though -- only 20/55 as a Senior. He does block shots and can play some defense.
More on him later, watch this video!
It will be interesting to see if he can transition some of that NCAA energy onto the NBA hardcourt. In effect he could replace what the team may be losing in Trevor Booker, while really watching Rudy Gobert, Derrick Favors, and Trey Lyles take the lion's share of the minutes. He will see time with the Salt Lake City Stars. He doesn't have to make the Jazz to do so either, as they hold his rights.
