Big Faves to the Big Easy

Derrick Favors didn’t last too long on the free agent market. Big Faves looks to be headed to the Big Easy according to Tony Jones of The Athletic. The New Orleans Pelicans have traded for Derrick Favors. Favors to join a roster with Jrue Holiday, Zion Williamson, and JJ Redick. This would be a fantastic fit for the New Orleans Pelicans.

If you’re asking yourself, what is coming back to Utah??? The answer is draft picks.

This is absolutely a steal. The New Orleans Pelicans get Derrick Favors bird rights in the trade and get Derrick Favors on a fantastic contract. The Utah Jazz get picks to restock the empty cupboard of picks that were sent out to acquire Mike Conley. Justin Zanik is having an amazing offseason—so is the New Orleans Pelicans’ David Griffin for that matter.

In addition to the draft picks the Utah Jazz obtained in the trade, the Utah Jazz created a huge Trade Exception. Utah could possibly still have their MLE. It will be fascinating to see what Utah ends up with. Could this trade be linked to the Memphis one for Conley? This is like watching a chess master have the game of their life.

Derrick Favors averaged 11.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks a game in only 23.2 minutes a game. The New Orleans Pelicans now have their center to hold down and protect the paint. Utah gets draft picks to fill in their roster over the next few seasons as they are maxed out on cap space.

We are approaching the almost perfect offseason for the Utah Jazz at this point.
