The G-League announced today that Martin Schiller of the Salt Lake City Stars will receive coach of the year honors.

In every aspect of coaching Schiller has succeeded this year. In terms of wins Schiller led the Stars to the best record in the Western Conference. At one point the Stars went on a 14-game winning streak, the second longest in G-League history. Those winning ways were powered by a Stars defense that led the league in points allowed and was consistently top five in defensive efficiency.

Schiller also led the Stars to victory in the 2019 MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase in December in Las Vegas. All of these things he did while also dealing with a fluctuating roster of assignment players, and two-way contracts.

To achieve that much success, with that much fluctuation, is impressive.

That fluctuating roster is another sign of what Schiller’s season so successful. Multiple players have found a home in the NBA after being coached by Schiller including players like Juwan Morgan and William Howard.

Schiller is one of the G-League’s best and it’s nice to see him get recognized. Congrats, Coach!
