Donovan Mitchell just so happened to be interviewed by USA Today on the same day as the Mike Conley trade to the Utah Jazz. Many of us are excited to see Donovan and Mike Conley share the same backcourt, but what does Spida think?
“He’s a great player,” said Donovan Mitchell to Trysta Krick of USA Today. “He’s very underrated in my opinion.”
Donovan Mitchell was very complimentary of Conley’s basketball abilities. He also talked about how Conley could serve as another teacher for Donovan Mitchell as he looks to take the next step in his game this offseason.
“[Conley] does a lot—getting into the lane, being able to finds guys,” said Mitchell describing Mike Conley’s skillset. “And also, I can learn a lot from him, too, as far as learning how to be a point guard and playing the pick and roll. Finding the open guys, and making open shots.”
Donovan Mitchell didn’t forget his past teammates. While this is a business, Donovan Mitchell is going to miss Jae Crowder, Kyle Korver, and Grayson Allen.
“Obviously I’m sad that Grayson—Grayson’s a good friend of mine—Jae, Kyle as well, that they’re gone. I’ve been through this trade thing I think 3 times in my career. I’m a little more used to it than I was the first time, but what we’re getting in Mike, he’s a great player.”
The trade for Mike Conley will not be finalized until July 6th when the new league year begins, but in the meantime, there’s a lot to be excited about if you are a Utah Jazz fan.
