Utah Jazz Downbeat #2085: The End?

We know what’s at stake. But we have to go over it again. But don’t lose sight on what’s important: this was a great year. “Regardless,” - C.Boozer

This could be it, the night where the Utah Jazz get that monkey off of their backs and defeat the Golden State Warriors and giving them that 3-1 lead in the second round of the NBA Playoffs. Of this could be it, the last night of the season. That means you cash out and count your chips. That means looking at the NBA Draft and difficult summer to come. Gordon Hayward leads a free agency crew that’s significant and important. George Hill and Joe Ingles are both going to get paid this off-season. And that’s just the start.

But I know that you are like me, and don’t want this to be it. We don’t want to talk Draft and Free Agency just yet. Not yet.

Also, this is probably the worst downbeat ever. I’m in a funk right now. I don’t know why, but I think the Warriors have something to do with it.

Jazz fans, I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t know even where to begin. But for whatever reason I’ve been in a funk for the last few days. That Game 3 loss was tough. And I don’t even know why? I expected the Warriors to be really hard to cover, and they have been. I expected them to win the first two games in their gym, and they did that. And I expected that one of the Jazz losses in this series would be a close one - and you can’t tell me that Game 3 wasn’t close. It was.

But I guess the main problem is that this is where expectations either get met and raised, or not met and we have to look at our own selves in the mirror for the rest of the season.

This has been a difficult season with injuries, strange rotations, some bad luck on long road trips, and growing pains all around. But it’s been a season with another division banner, another 50 wins, an All-Star, possibly an All-NBA Player, and yet another trip to the playoffs where our guys advanced.

On all metrics, wins, or whatever, this has been a great season. But there’s one more thing I want, and it’s for this team to beat the Warriors once. Each game as gotten better and better for Utah. Game one had extended garbage time as their starters rested. Game two had their starters on the floor to finish the game, another blowout. Game three had their starters actually have to play to stave off the Jazz and win.

Perhaps the main problem here isn’t about expectations, but wants. We’re fans. We love this team, duh. But we really love this 2016-2017 team. And I don’t want this to be the last Downbeat of the season. I don’t want to see our guys lose at home to end the season. I don’t want this to be the last Jazz game for a number of guys who may be gone in the off-season.

I don’t want it to end. I expect that Golden State will try to finish our guys off tonight. But as a fan, I really want our Jazzmen to make them all #TakeNote - at least for one more game.

[NSFW words warning]

Seriously though, screw these clowns.

It’s good to be humble even if you are at the top. If not, it’s all the more reason to want to knock you off.

Yes, there is basketball happening all around the world right now, it’s not just here in the NBA Playoffs where action exists. Also: this is a cool collection of Wing players.

Three of these guys would have killed it in this era of basketball.

I hope this isn’t the last time we get to see them up there.

So, is this the end?
